About the project
With financial support from Trans Care BC, City Centre Community Centre Association partnered with the Richmond Media Lab. Together, they invited youth with diverse backgrounds and identities to participate in a series of skill-building workshops.
While this project encouraged safe self-expression, these workshops also provided opportunities for youth to learn and grow a strong foundation of media arts skills. While the participants learned how to apply their new skills, the Just Like You magazine began to take shape. Youth were given the opportunity to develop their stories while uncovering new friendships and social support networks.
We celebrated the launch of the event at the Richmond Cultural Centre with our participants, family, friends, and community partners. The event was an opportunity to celebrate the project, as well as connect with one another after completing the project.
Homophobia and transphobia continue to be prevalent issues, both globally and in the Greater Vancouver area. The perspectives and experiences in this magazine highlight stories from our LGBTQ2S youth community.
Physical copies of the magazine are available upon request. Please contact Marco at email@example.com for more information.
